In order to support people with mobility difficulties in our area, we propose a project to create and install special ramps and auxiliary infrastructure on a beach that would be easily accessible and have an impact on the local community. By creating the ideal conditions, we hope to make the beach accessible and enjoyable for all members of our community.
The independent movement and living of people with disabilities is hindered by the difficulty they have in moving, reaching, perceiving, communicating and adapting. They try to overcome their physical disability with assistive devices such as canes, walkers and wheelchairs, and succeed when they are not hindered by steps or floors with steep slopes and narrow spaces. ∆They are facilitated by the provision of gently sloping and step-free floors, mechanical means to accommodate differences in height, easy and accessible handling mechanisms, comfortable and safe spaces.
Our action aims to:
To remove architectural barriers and anything that prevents the independent movement and living of people with mobility difficulties and disabled people in general within buildings or open spaces.
Make the built environment friendly, accessible and safe for all categories of users by using floors with smooth slopes and no steps, appropriate parking signs for motorised vehicles and more comfortable and hazard-free spaces, thus facilitating independent movement and living for all users.
To raise awareness in the local community of practices that are friendly to people with fewer opportunities and to encourage local businesses to also build ramps in their shops for the smooth access of these people.
The idea came about during the quarantine period due to Covid-19. We all felt the need to take a walk and especially in an area that has the sea nearby a visit to it was a mental necessity. There we noticed that while we could “touch” the wave, people with disabilities, elderly people in wheelchairs and visually impaired young people could not come close to the sea because of the physical restrictions that existed. Then we thought of this idea and wanted to put it into practice.
