Passage of life 2.0

In recent years, the demand of people with disabilities and disabled people (elderly and injured) for independent, safe and dignified access to many beaches in our country has raised awareness and we want to create the ideal conditions for people with health problems in our region. For this reason we thought of proposing this project “Passage of Life 2.0” (2022-3-EL02-ESC30-SOL-000095049) to install special ramps and auxiliary infrastructure on the coast of our region. Last year we implemented the first action by creating the first ramp for disabled people in a small area of Laconia and the impact it had gave us hope for the future. The majority of us come from a coastal area of Laconia, one of the southernmost parts of Greece and far from the ideas and awareness of European values. In the area of Kokkinia Lakonia’s atopic coastline, unfortunately, it is not organized and as a result people with disabilities cannot access the coastline as they have to walk a distance of 40 meters in the sand to reach it. The independent movement and living of people with disabilities is hindered by the difficulty they have in moving, approaching, perceiving, communicating and adapting. They try to overcome their physical handicap with assistive devices such as walking sticks, walkers and wheelchairs, and succeed when they are not hindered by steps or steeply sloping floors and narrow spaces. ∆They are facilitated by the provision of gently sloping and step-free floors, mechanical means to accommodate differences in height, easy and accessible handling mechanisms, comfortable and safe spaces.
