Protect Our Lungs

About the project

The aim of the project is to help young people in Greece, Italy, Spain, Bulgaria, Bulgaria, Romania and Malta to explore and develop sustainable skills, environmental awareness and teamwork. This will be achieved through a combination of theoretical and practical lessons, as well as interactive activities based on the principles of non-formal education. Cultural evenings will also be included as a way for participants to share their culture, music and food with each other, adding a European dimension to the project.

The main focus of the project is climate change and sustainability. The organisers with the participants hope to strengthen cooperation between the participating countries and inspire the development of new projects on these issues. They also want to promote understanding of the interconnectedness of climate change and the importance of systems thinking to address it.

In addition to raising awareness about climate change, the project aims to support youth participation in global climate action and teach participants about forest protection and the importance of environmental awareness.

Project objectives

Raise Awareness

Raise awareness about environmental issues, including challenges faced by young people and proposals for solution.

Inclusive Communities

Create an inclusive environment that encourages cultural exchange, breaking down barriers and building a supportive community.

How we did it?

The participating organisations were Proutist Universal Malta, AYUNTAMIENTO DE HUERCAL-OVERA, SPORTSROOM and Idee In Movimento. Laconia is a unique island located just 500 metres from the mainland, known for its rare flora and fauna, high dunes and rare sea cedars. The island’s twin beaches, Simos and Sarakinikos, are considered among the best in the Mediterranean. The island also boasts many other natural and cultural attractions, including a sunken Bronze Age city, a protected wetland that is home to rare species of migratory birds and a picturesque bridge leading to the island’s trademark Agios Spyridon. There were many outdoor activities to enjoy on the island, as well as opportunities to experience the local culture through food, music and hospitality.

Skill-Building Workshops

Participants engaged in interactive workshops including drawing in the sand with their bodies, treasure hunt and brainstorming about eco solutions and dissemination strategies about ecology.

Collaborative Projects

Working in teams, participants applied their skills by creating digital content on topics that mattered to them. This involved brainstorming ideas, developing concepts, shooting footage, and editing, enabling participants to bring their projects to life through teamwork and creativity.

Cultural Exchange

Participants engaged in cultural events to share traditions, went on group outings to explore the local area, and participated in team-building games designed to build trust and strengthen group dynamics.

Reflection and Evaluation

Each day ended with reflective sessions, where participants discussed their learning experiences, shared challenges, and celebrated successes and Youthpass filling.

The project results

Promoted diversity and inclusion values among young people; strengthened the knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed to fully accept, support and promote the differences in society;

Involved people with fewer opportunities in international projects.

What The Numbers Are Saying
