About the project

The project “Marine Life for cultural heritage” (2022-1-EL02-KA152-YOU-000063385) was about nature and awareness through history and culture. Eurotas is inextricably linked to the history of ancient Sparta. At its mouth it forms extensive delta, which is one of the most important wetlands of the Peloponnese. It once covered one of the most important areas of the region of the Greater Peloponnese, but has now been drained and is under pressure from settlement. 

Nevertheless, the delta remains important place for migratory birds and is one of the most important nesting areas for the many species of migratory birds. The aim of our action was to clean up the wider beach area, to protect the animals that the beach, to become an example to be followed and to pass the message to the local community. community about the importance of the area and our duty to prevent its pollution in the future.

Project objectives

Cultural exchange

We organized sporting and cultural activities to involve more people from the local community local and wider society to European values and to talk about the importance of the place through its history and culture.

Sports and history connection

Through sporting activities, we wanted to revive the legend and history of one of the greatest Olympians of the region, Nicocles.

Ecology awareness

All activities were held in nature in order to enrich the connection between participants and nature by cleaning the beach as the main activity.

Digital skills

Participants created videos for raising awareness, including local community.

How we did it?

Non formal education activities

By Cleaning the beach and spreading the importance of environmental awareness in every local community by sport activities and video creation.

Inclusivity

The inclusion of young people in sporting activities and the interpretation of the essence of the concept of ‘not fighting’ is also our goal, including, to bring the participants closer to the history and culture of the historical region of Laconia by opening their minds, to develop the participants’ skills in transnational cooperation and language skills language skills, to introduce young people who are geographically marginalized from the mountainous region of Laconia and from purely agricultural areas and to integrate them into the values of cooperation in the European Union.

The project results

We encouraged the creation of intercultural awareness through the development of attitudes of respect for cultural diversity that exists around us, to introduce them to non-formal education methods , exchanges of cultural ideas and the values offered by youth exchanges, the development of young people’s social skills, to raise environmental awareness throughout the local and wider Laconian society, to disseminate the action so that similar actions can be carried out in the future, to improve the knowledge of the Erasmus+ Programme and the opportunities for young people and those working with young people.
